I began training in ballet at age 4 and continued on the pre-professional track for over a decade, studying the Vaganova method under Jorge Esquivel, Amparo Brito, and Yoira Esquivel-Brito (from the National Ballet of Cuba), and Alexi Zubiria (from the San Francisco Ballet). My training came to an abrupt end when I learned that the intensity was posing a serious risk to my health.
Ballet ingrained in me a deep obsession with movement and the human body, which completely informs my POV today. I now explore movement from an angle of felt experience, the body's intelligence, and visual language, built on a robust foundation in ballet.
